Aaron Chesser Takes Dan Reno Memorial Win at Brushcreek

(Peebles, Ohio)Action returned to the high banks of Brushcreek Motorsports Complex on Saturday September 6 with the Dan Reno Memorial Bomber shoot out. The 22 race was held in memory of 2009 Bomber track champion Dan Reno, who tragically lost his life in a atv accident last month.

As the warm afternoon sun faded into the cool night, action heated up on the 1/3 mile speed plant 3 miles south of Peebles, Ohio. Aaron Chesser picked up the Dan Reno Memorial feature win. Chad Smith took the late model feature. Scott Edmisten returned to a car for the first time in about a year, driving the modified his son had been driving this season to the modified feature win. Tom Partin edged John Gutman at the line to pick up the Legend world cup win and Bill Taylor picked up another crazy compact feature win.


Jamie Adams and Aaron Chesser brought the Dan Reno Memorial bomber feature to the green. Chesser jumped out to the early lead over over Jamie Adams and John Powell Jr. Over the first four circuits of the 1/3 mile speed plant Adams and Powell fought tooth and nail for second with Chesser at the point.

Powell slid by Adams on lap five. Now in second Powell set his eyes on front runner Chesser. Over the next six circuits Powell would challenge Chesser pulling along a side, but couldn't complete the pass. The action was slowed with a lap eleven caution when Joe Buskirks machine came to rest on the bottom of the front stretch.

On the restart, Chesser held the advantage over Powell, Adams and Bruce Gray Jr., who had quietly moved up from his seventh place stating position. One lap later Gray made the move around Adams to make it a three way race for the lead. As Chesser, Powell, and Gray battled for the lead Adams was being pressured for fourth by Brandon Thompson who worked his way up toward the front after starting tenth.

A late race caution, slowed the field bunching everyone up for one final time. On the restart, Chesser jumped out to a slight lead over Powell and Gray. Chesser would maintain the slight advantage over the final laps to pick up the Dan Reno Memorial feature win. Following Chesser across the line were John Powell Jr.. Bruce Gray Jr., Jamie Adams and Brandon Thohmpson rounding out the top five.

Mark Morrison and Delmas Conley brought the late model feature field to the green. After a couple attempts to get the feature event underway, the third attempt resulted in the first caution free lap. Delmas Conley jumped out to the early lead followed closely by Mark Morrison, and Chad Smith. The action was quickly slowed when the 00 of Matt Pistole went around in turn two.

On the restart, Conley held the advantage over Chad Smith, Mark Morrison and Rod Conley. The action was quickly slowed with a lap five caution when Paul Moore spun to the infield. On the Restart, Conley held the advantage over Smith, Rod Conley and Mark Morrison. After one more early caution, the race restarted with Conley holding the advantage over Chad Smith. Smith chased for the next three circuits until he was able to power by Conley on the high side coming out of turn four to complete lap eleven.

Now in front, Smith would start to work lap traffic on lap fourteen. Smith would weave in and out of the lap traffic while Conley chased closely behind. A late caution set up a two lap shoot out. On the restart, Smith got the advantage and held on to pick up the feature win. Following Smith across the line were Delmas Conley, Rod Conley, Kenny Christy and Dillon Huron.

Weasel Rhoades and Scott Edmisten brought the modified feature to the green. Rhoades jumped out to the early lead followed by Edmisten, Mike Gross and Dave Pinkerton. The action was quickly slowed with a three car pile up in turn one on lap two. Jake Keaton, Rob Lemaster and TJ Harper would all retire pit side, ending their night.

On the restart, Rhoades jumped out to the lead over Scott Edmisten, Mike Gross and Dave Pinkerton. The action was slowed on lap five when 20 of Jason Perry went over the back stretch. On the restart, Rhoades maintained the advantage over Edmisten, Gross and Pinkerton. Over the next four circuits Rhoades began to put some distance between himself and second running Edmisten. However, disaster would strike for leader Rhoades on lap ten when he got into a car he was trying to lap bringing out the caution. Rhoades was charged with the caution and had to go to the tail.

On the restart, Edmisten gained the advantage over Gross, Pinkerton, and Craig Christian. Edmisten held on over the final laps to pick up the feature win. Following Edmisten across the line were Mike Gross, Weasel Rhoades from the tail on lap ten, Dave Pinkerton, and Tony Dehart rounding out the top five.

Tom Partin and Matt Nichols brought the legend feature to the green. Nichols jumped out to the early lead followed by Partin and John Gutman. Nichols held the point for the first four circuit before Gutman slid by on lap five. The action was slowed on lap ten when Steve Duederstadt spun in turn four.

On the restart, Gutman maintained the advantage over Partin and Nichols. Gutman would hold the point over the final laps until Partin made his move coming out of turn four coming to the checkered flag. Partin slid up in front of Gutman out of the turn, Gutman shot to the bottom and it was a drag race to the line. Partin crossed the line .116 seconds in front of Gutman to pick up the feature win.

Bill Taylor and Rusty Demint brought the crazy compact feature field to the green. Taylor jumped out to the early lead followed by Demint and Rex Smith Jr. Smith slid by Demint on lap two to claim second. Taylor would maintain the lead over the first four circuits before Smith got by claim the point. Smith was the leader as the white waved, but soon would find himself behind the slower car of Stephanie Cran. As Smith tried to lap her he made contact sending Cran spinning across the track collecting third running Rusty Demint. The action was slowed with a caution. Smith was charged with the caution and sent to the tail.

On the restart, Taylor jumped out to the lead over Eric Baker, Randy Johnson and Jim Chandler. Taylor held on to pick up the feature win. Following Taylor across the line were Eric Baker, Randy Johnson, Jim Chandler and Eric Allen rounding out the top five.


Action will return to Brushcreek Motorsports Complex on Saturday September 26 with the Bill Bob Race. "Topless" Late Models $10,000 to Win, $600 to Start. Also Racing Crazy Compacts, Modifieds, Legends & Bombers. General Admission will be $25 and Pit admission will be $35. Pit Gates will open at 2pm. Hot Laps will begin at 4pm. Drivers please note the early start time for this event.
