Conley Claims Night Before the Heritage
(Peebles, Ohio) The 2010 American Heritage Classic
week end kicked off Friday August 6th with a complete one day show headlined by a $1,000 to win modified race plus crazy compacts
and legends. Fifty one modifieds signed in Friday with hopes of taking home the $1,000 top prize and gaining some valuable
track time before The American Heritage Classic main event on Saturday night.
Wellsburg, West Virginia's Corey Conley picked up the feature win. He
used a slide job on Milford Ohio's Dustin Webber out of turn four coming to the white flag lap to take the lead. Once in front
a three way battle for second at Conley's rear bumper raged. Coming through turn four on the final lap Webber tried a slid
job on Aaron Morey and Richard Michael Jr. but slid up the track allowing Chad Kinder and Doug Adkins to get by while Morey
and Michael chased Conley across the line.
Bobby Kitchen and Rob Stambaugh brought The Night Before the Heritage
modified feature field to the green. Kitchen jumped out to the early lead with Jess Hartman and Dustin Webber in tow. Kitchen
stretched his lead over the first eleven laps until a caution slowed pace on lap twelve when Joey Kramer spun out of turn
four. On the restart, Kitchen maintained the advantage over Hartman and Webber. The action was slowed just one lap later when
the caution waved when three cars got together in turn one.
On the restart, Kitchen had his hands full with Webber while Hartman and
Weasel Rhoades battled side by side for third. Webber shot to the lead out of turn four on lap sixteen. Lap seventeen saw
Rhoades move his way into second. Now in second Rhoades began to chase Webber down. Rhoades pulled up to the rear bumper of
Webber. Running nose to tail with front running Webber, Rhoades looped his #68 machine on the back stretch bringing out a
lap twenty-one caution.
On the restart, Webber maintained the advantage over Aaron Morey and Corey
Conley. Webber maintained a slight advantage the next seven circuits until Conley who had worked his way up from his sixth
starting position to take second put a slide job on the front running Webber out of turn four coming to the white flag to
claim the lead. Once in front a three way battle for second at Conley's rear bumper raged. Coming through turn four on the
final lap Webber tried a slid job on Aaron Morey and Richard Michael Jr. but slid up the track allowing Chad Kinder and Doug
Adkins to get by while Morey and Michael chased Conley across the line. Conley picked up the $1,000 win followed by Aaron
Morey, Richard Michael Jr., Chad Kinder and Doug Adkins rounding out the top five.
In other action it was Peebles Ohio's Dave Jamison picking up the legend
